Twisted Fate and finished FF VII ‘Disc’ Two

I finished Runaway: Twist of Fate. The last part was quite good. I liked the puzzle where Gina finds a way to talk to Brian through two cans and a piece of string. I used the hint system a couple of times. For instance to figure out that you must use the scarf on the door to be able to enter the building later on. This I would have never figured out. Maybe if the door had a handle I would, or if Brian would have made a remark in that regard, but I doubt it.

All in all I enjoyed playing the third Runaway game, even without playing any of the previous parts in the series. I think I would have rather played it on a big screen though. Some things might have been easier to recognize. I never figured out why it’s called twist of fate. Which twist are we talking about here? And which fate?

Now that I’m back from vacation, I can continue with Final Fantasy VII. After doing some stuff and watching an epic cut scene about a giant gun shooting the barrier that was protecting the crater and also hitting a giant robot, the game told me it was time to return to Midgar. I did, only to find out that the gates were locked and the key was lost during an excavation expedition. I didn’t make the connection with Bone Village and had to look that up. When I got the key, I didn’t get where I was supposed to go. After more online help it became clear that you just have to fly your airship above the town and parachute in. Dôh!

It took some doing to remember where the excavation site was and how to recover the key

I did more stuff there and I now have dealt with Shinra. The bosses were not particularly difficult. Only Hojo wiped me out the first time and I had to do him again. The second time was not so difficult while I didn’t do anything different. That frustrates me a bit about this game. While I don’t like difficult games, I do like to be moderately challenged. I seem to remember that the Final Fantasy VI required more strategy to combat. Like enemies that harmed you when you attacked them and such. I almost never use magic in this game.

But maybe I spoke too sone, because one particular enemy in the North Cave wiped me out. It is a creature with a cross above it’s head and it insta kills you with some attacks. It’s not clear how I should deal with it, but it’s probably a good idea to grind some more before attempting to proceed. Maybe some useful items can help me. What’s frustrating though is that before reaching the creature it was a while before I saved. Now I have to do all those annoying fights again. When this happens I immediately take a break from the game and try again another day. I did get a mobile save point, but don’t want to use it before I know what a good point is. And that in turn requires doing this part over again. Until next time…
