But I only wanted to watch a few X-files episodes…!

I was reading some articles about the X-files and that brought back memories. My friends and I were totally hooked on the series and we would try to figure out what it all meant. We were disappointed when the weekly episode didn’t advance the overarching story, although in time we would discover that the story didn’t really advance at all and nothing would get resolved.

In the article from my favorite digital antiquarian season 6 and 7 are considered to be very good. I don’t remember if I watched that far into the series back when it first aired, but I think so. The series seemingly got another vibe from then on because of the move from Canada to California. I don’t remember noticing that shift back in the day though.

In the last 20 years I’ve only watched a handful of random episodes from the first couple of seasons. Those all looked very old and (g)rainy. So when I wanted to watch some episodes from season 6 I discovered that I had to once again pay for yet another streaming service.

Now I do collect DVDs – and sometimes the odd VHS tape – of movies and series, but I want to contain that as much as possible, because I have more than enough stuff as it is. It is nice to have some collecting goals though when visiting second hand stores. So I put the X-files on my wish list. But that did nothing to satisfy my pressing eagerness to watch some X-files and before I knew it, I was browsing online. And lo and behold: Someone close by was offering the whole series! I put in an offer that amounted to about 3 months of subscription fees to a streaming service and now the whole series is mine for unlimited watching. Not that I want that But I figure I can always sell it on.
