I’ve got yet another game to add to the collection. It’s a game about a legend, like so many others (Legend of Zelda, of Faerghail, Falconia, of the Birdmen, of the Fortress, of Kyrandia, of Skullkeep, of the Beholder). Many games deal with legends. This game is Legend of the Sword. Of course, a lot of games are about swords also, but not too many have a sword in their title, only broken ones.
The game is published by Rainbird. It has the same striking blue box as the other Rainbird games in my collection from Level 9 and Magnetic Scrolls. Legend of the Sword is also an adventure games with graphics and text entry, just like the games of those developers. This one is developed by Silicon Software. I haven’t played it, but it got nice reviews and the screenshots look intriguing.
The box art also looks interesting. There’s a sword, of course, and it’s standing upright in the middle of the picture with the sharp pointing upwards. It divides two scenes: On the left we see a warrior wearing armor and a helmet with a little dragon on top biting the helmet wearer’s nose. On the right we see a figure whose outfit indicates he’s of the magical persuasion. He’s floating over water, which you might think is his magical prerogative, but you might be mistaken, because the warrior is also floating.
Apparently, the game is about finding a lost mystical sword and shield. It would have been so much better if the game was titled Legend of the Sword and Shield. That would have been memorable!
