I made some changes to the gameroom recently. I placed the flatscreen on a bigger tv stand on the right hand side of the CRT and I replaced the shelves with books and magazines with more bookcases. That creates more breathing room and leaves me with more shelves to put games on. The drawback is that I can display less books and magazines facing forwards.

The Billy bookcases look tidier than the randomly places shelves and there’s now more room to sit comfortably next to each other on the armchairs. The flatscreen is standing a bit lower on the Besta tv stand than on the Kallax, so I might change that and hang it higher. But that poses a challenge, because I put two Billy bookcases on top of the tv stand. I had to shorten the bookcases with 5 centimeters to let them fit under the lowered ceiling and it looks really neat. There’s some wasted space behind the tv now, but it’s not all wasted because I’ve placed the subwoofer there and some other things that I don’t pick up frequently, so it’s good storage space.
With these changes I might be able to squeeze about 50 more big box games in the room. That’s nice, because I started to get a bit worried I might have to put some in storage.
But I might be deluding myself here. There’s probably less space available then I’m counting on. Notice that the airco is covered with games at the moment. That’s no problem because it’s broken. But that is a problem of course, because it’s broken and the recent heatwave won’t be the last.
I’m also not happy with the speaker placement yet, but I don’t see an easy solution for that right now. It’s good enough for the gameroom. Most movies are watched in the living room anyway.
