Now that Colossal Cave is constantly crashing on me, I grabbed the Switch 2 to play Zelda: Link’s Awakening. This is one fun little game. The objective is simple: No saving Hyrule this time, just trying to escape the island you’re trapped on. How? By playing music to a gigantic egg with a lot of different instruments of course, which will break it and assumingly hatch a bird that can give you a ride out.
It’s typical old school Zelda gameplay, which is very enjoyable every couple of years. The last game like this that I played was A Link Between Worlds and that was a little over 8 years ago today.
It’s quite easy so far, but I was stuck for a bit and didn’t know how to access the south east part of the island. I got there eventually, but that was accidental. An enemy threw a bomb at me and thereby revealed an underground passage. Then I could continue and in another hour’s time I got the harp. The map is now largely revealed and I guess I’m about half way through the game. I got flippers and that opens up a lot of watery areas to explore.
Playing this Zelda game really gets me into the mood of more Zelda and I can’t wait for the Ocarina of Time remake later this year!
