It has been a long time that I went to a retro games convention. The last time was years ago in Tilburg and yesterday I visited again. It was much bigger this time around and it proved that four hours weren’t enough to see it all. I bought some nice stuff though:
- Super Mario 64: This was one of the few games I had back in the day for my N64 and up until now I only had a loose copy. I just had to get this, because it’s one of my favorite N64 games.
- Top Gear Overdrive and Top Gear Rally for the N64: I only had Top Gear Overdrive loose and I haven’t played Top Gear Rally, but read good things about it.
- A manual for Banjo-Kazooie to replace my water logged one.
- Blue Lightening for the Atari Lynx. I only had two loose copies. This was one of the three games I had back in the nineties. Now I only need a boxed copy of California Games.
- Tetris DS: Turns out I already had it in my collection, but didn’t register it in CLZ Games. Dôh!
- Yoshi’s Woolly World: I wanted to get at least one Wii U game. Never played this for more than an hour. Something to keep me occupied before I can get a copy of Mario Wonder. I looked for it, but didn’t see that at the convention.
- Two Final Fantasy games for the PS4: X | X-2 HD and XV. Never played those. I just recently started a bit with VII.
- A stand for my Nintendo 3DS and a sign that says “LYNX”.
I was also looking for more things to decorate my gameroom with, like LED panels or some such, but didn’t see anything I liked.
There were also some arcade cabinets and some home computers setup to play. I got a chance to look at the Checkmate monitors which looked really nice. There was even a gold Commodore 64 Ultimate Founders Edition which looked horrible. But I guess I’m not the one to judge, because my C64 is green.
Visiting the convention was a very nice experience. And the best thing came when I got home. I decided to test all the games and they all worked. Also Blue Lightening on my Lynx MK2. But the most incredible part was that it also worked on my screen-modded MK1 which I thought was dead! Whoo-hoo! It doesn’t work with all my games, so there’s definitely still something wrong with it, but that might be simply fixed with some contact cleaner or something. Very weird, because earlier it just wouldn’t turn on. Maybe it’s the heat. Very happy indeed!
