I wanted to start this post by questioning why I even like playing text-adventures. I get lost in my own maps and I suck at solving puzzles. That was after being stuck in Tristam Island. Previously I had managed to gain entrance to the White House, but then I could go no further. There’s a contraption in the lobby that opens a door, but I couldn’t figure out what to do. Just before writing this post though, I managed to make some progress. I guess my puzzle solving skills are not that bad.
That leaves the map making aspect. I do enjoy mapping out a game, but I quickly get lost in them. I guess that you’re supposed to make many iterations before you get a really helpful map. Because I was stuck in the White House, I thought I needed to do some things on the island. But I dreaded retracing my steps with my own map, so I printed a map somebody else had made. Wow! That looked so much more professional. That proved really helpful with roaming around, but I did notice some irregularities with that one also. So just making a nice looking map isn’t everything. I do like looking back at my own maps and I won’t stop making them, but I might have to put a little more effort in them.
Anyway, back to Tristam Island!
