My computer game collection focuses on the actual games themselves and not on merchandise such as statues, pluches and posters. But I have a few such things. Mainly from collectors’ editions. Items that I have on display are a bobble head figure from Fallout 3 and a Foster and Joey figure from Beyond a Steel Sky. I also have a few posters and paintings inspired by Monkey Island, Ultima and Zelda.
The poster of the tapestry of ages from Ultima IX I have hanging on the wall is very cool and I was thinking about adding to that with Alduin’s Wall from Skyrim and an Grim Fandango’s four year journey.
Recently I acquired another such item though. It’s a little figure from the Double Fine point-and-click adventure game The Cave. It’s a game I would very much like to have a boxed copy of for my collection, but it has only ever been released digitally. I have seen someone selling a homemade box on Etsy, but that isn’t what I’m looking for. So this figure is the only official physical item that has been released for this game. Apparently, they were sold as promotional items and it was a surprise which of the characters was inside.

And the one I got is… The Scientist! Which is cool because I picked her for my initial playthrough back in 2021.
I have fond memories of playing it while my daughter watched me play and chimed in with her thoughts. That was when she was a pre-teen and not yet old enough to spend most of her time cooped up in her room like she does now.
Because it’s a game from Ron Gilbert and I have a lot of other LucasArts adventure games, it’s especially nice to have this item as well. The next best thing to having a boxed copy of the game!
