I just encountered my first beholder in Baldur’s Gate II and it was a genuine OMG moment. I can’t remember the last time I encountered one in a video game. I was immediately taken back to my first play through of Ultima Underworld. OMG what was I scared of those things back then. Almost as much as I was scared of those living trees with their angry faces.

Anyway, we were grateful that the golem dispatched it for us. I’m dreading the moment when we encounter another one and he won’t be there to save us.
