Reading about games in game books like The CRPG Book or Dungeons and Desktops leads one to desire to obtain physical copies of more and more games. This time I managed to get my hands on Realms of Arkania: Shadows over Riva. It has very striking box art just like the first game in the series. I remember drooling (literally) over adverts for that game back when I was young.
The box itself is very large. That’s because it’s the US release. Like so many other things, boxes in the US were often larger than in Europe. Though this is mostly the case for games released after the mid nineties. I guess they became bigger and bigger just to stand out on the shelf. I have a few other US releases, like Baldur’s Gate. If I ever manage to get my hands on the first two Realms of Arkania games, they probably have smaller boxes.
