I have always regretted not getting a physical copy of Hired Sword II for the Commodore 64. I had an Ebay search going for a long time which finally gave a result. I jumped on it and although I had to pay more than double the amount that the original game sold for the price was still okay.
It fits in really nice with my copies of The Shadows of Sergoth and Black Dawn Rebirth, also from Double Sided Games. Sadly I don’t have a boxed copy of L’Abbaye des morts to complement the collection, but I do have a really cool version of that game on cassette.
I have some trouble running the game from disk though. I don’t really know why it won’t load. The contents of the disk show up fine, but it just hangs. I downloaded a digital copy and that works from my Turbo Chameleon, although I have to deactivate the real 1541 drive. If I don’t the game starts from the SD-card, but continues to load from the real disk, but never gets into the game proper. I would like to play the game from the real disk, so I’ll continue to look into it. For now I’m just running around in the game to see how it plays. I already kissed an ugly hag!
