Less was more in 2025

Another year has almost gone. In 2025, my games collection grew less than in the previous years and that’s a good thing because space is getting really tight in the gamesroom. And looking back at them, I haven’t even played maybe a quarter of them. Also there were a lot of quality additions with standouts like Forge of Virtue, Quest for Glory: Shadows of Darkness, two Pirates! games and two Pillars of Eternity Collector’s Editions!

Collection stats

The collection grew with 54 games (I know the image shows 55, but that’s including Shadow Switcher which I got years ago, but only just now added it to the collection), a lot less than the 86-87 in 2024, 2022 and 2021 and almost half of the 100 additions in 2022! The total amounts to 744 physical games/carts. That includes big box games as well as console games. Compilations like most Evercade carts count as one.
When I started out expanding my collection back in 2018/2019 I didn’t think it would ever grow this big. And when I look at my wish list and the space I have, I don’t think it will ever grow to 1.000 games.

A little curating

2025 was the year I cut down on my Evercade collection. At cart number 45 (Tomb Raider 2) I realized that from the last 10 carts I only enjoyed a few games from 4 of them and I didn’t look forward to buying all the new carts. I haven’t bought a new cart since and I also haven’t played on the Evercade Alpha during the Christmas period like I planned. I’m curious how many carts I’ll buy (and play) in 2026.

games played

In 2025 I played some very good games:

  • Finished Cyberpunk 2077 (PS5)
  • Thomas was Alone (PS4)
  • Procession to Calvary (PS4)
  • A Pig Quest (C64)
  • Tomb Raider (Evercade, first time)
  • Baldur’s Gate 3 (PS5)
  • Gemdalus (Amiga)
  • Warlock’s Tower (PS4)
  • some Iron Commando and Dragon View (Evercade, haven’t finished)
  • Soko Banana (Evercade)
  • Life on Mars (Evercade)
  • VirtuaVerse (PS4)
  • Escape from Monkey Island (PS2, again)
  • Pillars of Eternity (PS5, haven’t finished it yet though)
  • TantooMan (C64)
  • Mario 3D World (Wii U, for the 2nd time, but first time all the way through)
  • Mario Odyssey (NS2)
  • Simon the Sorcerer II (PC)
  • Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom (NS2)
  • Started with Horizon Chase 2 (NS2)
  • Started with Foolish Mortals (PC)
  • Started with Oblivion Remastered (PS5)
  • Lots of short bursts of arcade fun on the Evercade Alpha

Standouts for me were A Pig Quest, Baldur’s Gate 3, Mario Odyssey and Tears of the Kingdom.

2026

In 2026 I would like to play Final Fantasy VII, Red Dead Redemption II, some Space Quest games, King’s Quest VI, Thimbleweed Park (again) and maybe Pool of Radiance. But first I gave to finish Foolish Mortals and Pillars of Eternity. And play more Oblivion Remastered. And then we’re probably in March already…

2026 is also going to be the year in which I have scanned in al my games. I’m currently at 131 games, so that leaves 611 games still to do. That’s too many I’m afraid. Realistically it’s better if I focus on big box games alone. Console games including Evercade amount to almost 300 games, so that leaves a little over 300. That’s doable.
