I’ve got my hands on my first point-and-click adventure game published and developed by MicroProse almost two years ago. That game was Rex Nebular and the Cosmic Gender Bender. I had never played that game and I’m ashamed to admit that I’ve still haven’t played it since I got it
Today, I got my hands on a second adventure game from MicroProse and that game is Return of the Phantom. This game I have also never played. I haven’t even seen the musical or read any stories about the Phantom of the Opera. I guess, this game will be a nice introduction to the matter for me. If I ever take the time to play it that is. The game has support for Roland MT-32 music, which is a pro for me, because I want to use that device as much as possible. It wasn’t a pro at the time of release though, because reviewers were hoping for a real score and not a synthesized one.
It’s de CD-ROM version of the game. I’ve read somewhere that there’s also a floppy version that has a mirrored image of the phantom’s mask on it. It would be interesting to add that version to my collection also. But that’s going to be a passive search. Just as it was with this game.
I’ve successfully removed the CD-ROM sticker from the front of the box without damaging it. You can still see the outline of the sticker and some glue residu however. I was not as successful with the price sticker. Some glue wouldn’t come off and the box is a bit damaged. But that’s not a big problem, because the box already has a bit of wear to it. And this is not a game that will be put face forward on the shelf.
There is a third MicroProse adventure game, Dragonsphere, that I want in my collection. I’ve seen interesting copies being offered on Ebay, but haven’t yet picked one up. Let’s see if it will take me another two years.
