I’ve recently finished The Digital Antiquarian Volume 13: 1991 and immediately continued with volume 14 (1992), because I remember thinking on many occasions that that year is my favorite year in gaming. Some of the games that defined me as a gamer were released in 1992 such as Monkey Island II: LeChuck’s Revenge, Ultima Underworld II, Dune, Dune II, Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis, Ultima VII – The Black Gate, Putty and The Lost Vikings. I wondered if that feeling was represented in my games collection. So I looked at my Game Cloud account from Collectorz and sure enough 1992 is the year with the most games in my collection.
I currently have 37 games from 1992 in my collection. 1992 is closely followed by 1991 with 35 games which is no surprise because that year is a close contender of the year with the greatest games, such as The Secret of Monkey Island, Ultima Underworld and Lemmings.
The above is not counting such great games as Street Fighter II, Super Mario World en Super Mario Kart for the SNES which I have great nostalgia for. And there’s also Zelda: A Link to the Past, which I didn’t play back in the days and don’t find very enjoyable today. Because I don’t currently collect SNES games, they are not accounted for in my collection, but the do show that 1992 was a great year in gaming.
