The Elder Scrolls is a nice series to collect for. There are all sorts of different variants of the games. Arena has a regular and a Deluxe Edition, Daggerfall has at least 10 editions (see them at bigboxcollection.com)! Morrowind also has a lot of cool editions. And then there are the spin-offs.
But Oblivion is where it starts to thin out. There is the very cool Collector’s Edition which I got on launch, but it’s small size makes it seem less special than it deserves to be. And that’s about it. The expansions came in typical dvd cases and the only boxed release of The Shivering Isles I managed to track down is a budget release. It’s nothing special but at least it looks nice on the shelf. It certainly isn’t as nice as the Morrowind expansions.
To accompany that release, I now got hold of the matching release of the main game. Some local seller put it up for sale for cheap and it felt appropriate to pick it up while I’m still playing the Remastered version.
Speaking of The Shevering Isles, I’m currently roaming that place in its Remastered Incarnation. I don’t remember much of the only time I played through not long after its original release. And I now remember why. It isn’t a happy place and the choices you have to make are not very pleasant most of the time. I’m also so powerful at level 21 that the enemies pose much of a challenge. I could of course up the difficulty level, but I don’t think that would make it more fun. Not being able to enjoy better armor or weapons, being a mage, certainly doesn’t help in this regard. But I have to finish it because the main quest already bugged me out.
