I’m having fun in Oblivion Remastered and haven’t noticed many bugs or glitches so far. Only one person who was sleeping in mid air three meters from has bed and halfway through his door. And falling leaves that leave weird graphical reflections. Maybe two crashes. Otherwise no bugs or glitches up until 25 hours into the game.
I’m now fully into that zone that continuously makes you wonder what’ll happen next and makes you want to do “just that one more thing before I quit”. It’s been long enough since I last played the game that I don’t remember everything that happens. And most quests have multiple ways to approach them anyway.
One fun quest was the town where everyone’s invisible. I forgot how to solve that one, but remembered that many years ago I had trouble with it, because I couldn’t find the guy you’re supposed to find (and that’s exactly what he wants.) This time around it was way easier. Maybe because the graphics are so much better. Or I simply got lucky.
The ending was hilarious, because the guy you’re supposed to talk to, to end the quest complains that he wished that his sisters would have remained invisible. But they are standing both right beside him, still being just that! They probably were just out of reach of the reversal spell. But the game doesn’t acknowledge that. Typical Oblivion!
Another typical moment occurred with the quest about the twins. Once reunited they both walked right through two people having a conversation about them, mentioning that they saw one of them last week and that he didn’t recognize her. Hello! They just bumped into you!

The third quest that was both tedious and fun was the one with Glarthir. I know that’s a fan favorite and I remembered parts of it, but not the part where it’s his voice that’s so hilarious. I actually watched a video about the quest going into detail about the possibility that Glarthir might be correct and not just paranoid. I actually got a different scenario than the different ones that were mentioned. The second guy I followed was killed by a bear and when I told Glarthir that he was dead, he assumed that I’d killed him. I think that this is probably the bestest ending you can get, because you actually haven’t killed anyone, Glarthir also doesn’t kill anyone and he stays alive. Only the second guy gets killed, but that’s his own fault. He shouldn’t have gone out so far from the city without a guard or a way to defend himself. The many ways that this quest can play out is an example where Oblivion really shines.
Another quest had me momentarily stumped. I was supposed to deliver the shovel of the graverobber to the merchant, but somehow it didn’t register. Turned out that you need to specifically hand in the shovel from the crypt and not the one from his house.
Some of the weird things in Oblivion, make you wonder about other weird things that are also present in Skyrim and other games. Like why do people sleep on their beds, but not under their blankets? The beds have them, but it was probably too difficult to animate. And there’s probably a mod for that.
Other Oblivion specific weirdness: Why does nobody bury poor prior Marobel? He’s been lying dead in front of Weynon Priory for weeks now. And before you wonder why he’s naked: That’s because I wanted a robe because I’m a mage and those are not easily found in the early game. I wanted to put them back on, but I couldn’t. So please will somebody take care of him!
I had one moment where the Remaster annoyed me: I couldn’t gain entrance to Frostcrag Spire. Turns out there’s a camp nearby with a chest containing the key. How was I supposed to know about that? That wasn’t in the original game was it?
The remaster also has it’s upsides. Like how delicious those sweetrolls look!
Some of the quests in Oblivion sound so fun. I never finished the original version and I’ll definitely have to give the remaster a go soon!
