Chip’s Challenge again

Although I already have a loose copy of Chip’s Challenge for the Atari Lynx, as well as the game in the Atari Lynx Collection for Evercade, I also bought a complete in box copy. Because it’s one of the few Atari Lynx games that I enjoy playing, albeit more on the Evercade than on original hardware, I thought it warranted a CIB addition.

Every game needs a good backstory and so does Chip’s Challenge.

Chip’s Challenge is part of the first five games that were available for the system, alongside, California Games, Blue Lightening, Electrocop and Gates of Zendocon.

Four of those games have the same style of box art where the picture on the front cover isn’t full size. Later games featured bigger box art which looks much nicer.

Being an early game for the system it has a low “PA number”: PA2028. Although other later games have a lower PA number, like Gauntlet which has PA2024.
The first games that were released had a flat cartridge. But those were difficult to remove from the system, so later games had a Ridged Design, and even later the more commonly known Curved Lip design.
My version is the Curved Lip design. I only have one Gates of Zendocon cart with a Ridged Design.

I only had three games for my Atari Lynx in the 90s: California Games, Blue Lightening and Toki. The first came bundled with the system and the second I bought alongside it. The third I already have back again in my collection, but not the first two. I’ll keep an eye out for those in the coming months.
