Pillars of Eternity under the Christmas tree

Every year at Christmas I treat myself with a tech present or some other nerdy thing. We do give each other gifts with the family, but they’re not gamers or techies and the gifts we give each other are usually not as niche as I like to treat myself with. This year it’s the Collector’s Edition of Pillars of Eternity. Having all the Collector’s Editions of games like Baldur’s Gate II, Neverwinter Nights and Divinity: Original Sin had me lusting for this version of the game for a long time now. So this seemed like the perfect present to give to me!

The contents of this big box are a bit sparse. But that’s due to the rewards system of the Kickstarter campaign. I got one of the less expensive ones with cloth map, manual, notepad, two patches and the game. There’s no post card, no mouse pad, no t-shirt and no guidebook. Especially missing that guidebook is a bit of a bummer, but I knew that before purchasing it.

Adding this to the collection is really nice and it hopefully will make me want to return to the game. I started with it in August, but stopped in September, because other games called my attention. I played Mario Odyssey with my son and that doesn’t need justifying. After that I played Tears of the Kingdom and that proved that PoE didn’t manage to pull me in all the way. And now that I’m almost done with Zelda, I want to play a point-and-click and I will probably do Foolish Mortals first, before I return to Pillars. But now there’s a very big box on the shelf to remind me not to forget it.
