There are a lot of big box PC games in my collection, but none of these can actually run without an operating system. So those also deserve a place in my collection. Enter Windows 95. The first operating system for the IBM PC that actually made me feel that I upgraded from the Amiga 500. Being thrown back to MS-DOS after switching from the Amiga to a PC felt like a downgrade and my brief experience with Windows 3.1 didn’t make me feel otherwise.
But when Windows 95 came around that changed. I have vivid memories of installing custom desktop themes, like for The Curse of Monkey Island and 12 Monkeys. Eventually I upgraded to Windows 98 of course, but I still have my original Windows 95 CD and the Plus! pack. Those can now be housed in an actual big box!
