The amazing Digital Antiquarian has an excellent series of articles about the Titanic. As with most of his in-depth stories, you really feel immersed in the matter he’s writing about and in the games and especially the developers’ minds.
In the articles he takes you back to the attempts to search for the Titanic and later attempts to pull it out of the water. Excellent stuff! As usual, the articles conclude with tales about the games. There have been quite a lot of games about the Titanic. The best one being the one from 1996, Titanic: Adventure out of Time.
I thought I had this game in my collection, but that was not the case. I have another one: Starship Titanic, a game from 1998. That one isn’t as good as the aforementioned one. With over 700 games in my collection, it’s no wonder that I don’t know precisely which ones I do and don’t have.
A quick search for the 1996 game on the local online marketplace, incredibly returned one result. And it being a bit of a lesser known game and the seller having it on offer for a couple of weeks already, made for a quick and cheap purchase. I now have two Titanic games. I think I’ll try to sell the lesser one. Collecting is about curating after all and not the same as hoarding. Especially if I want to keep onbhaving delusions about onetime playing most of them.
