After playing three somewhat longer games back to back (Planescape Torment, The Outer Worlds and Horizon Forbidden West), I’m in for some lighter gaming. I’m not starting another big game in the two weeks that are left before our vacation. I “progressed” further in the Atari50 collection and played some of the games, especially Dark Chambers was fun.
What platform is better suited for that type of gaming than the Evercade? I’m enjoying browsing through the library function on the VS to see which games I want to play. I find it an excellent feature and I don’t understand the criticism I read about it. Some people were complaining that the feature only served to get people to buy more carts. But I disagree. If you didn’t buy a cart, than you probably had good reasons you didn’t and having the library showing you those carts won’t change those reasons. And with so many carts available it is very helpful to have an overview on the system itself.
I do however notice that I would like to be able to start a game directly from the library. Instead you have to look up the actual cart and put it in. That’s part of the charm of the Evercade I guess. But sometimes it can be annoying. I wouldn’t want a digital collection though. So it’s a minor inconvenience.
Games I’m currently enjoying are Psycho Pinball on the Codemasters Collection and I’m still playing Chew Chew Mimic and Big2Small. The latest level has me completely stumped. I don’t think it is possible, but of course I know it is, which drives me absolutely crazy!
I previously held off on the Team17 cart. Mainly because I’m not into Alien Breed. I do however have a soft spot for the fighting games on there and would like another racing game on the Evercade. Maybe I will get that cart also. I guess the library feature persuaded me to get another cart…
