Picking up Evercade Arcade carts for the upcoming Alpha

I’ve pre-ordered the Evercade Alpha Megaman edition. Maybe it was just to give me an excuse to start collecting the Arcade carts. A number of them were on discount and I snapped them up. I still have five months to pick up the remaining ones until November when the Alpha comes out. And new ones will be undoubtedly released also.

I’m stoked to have a bartop again in a while. And the Alpha precisely fits the bill. It’s nice and small, so I can give it a space and it will actually be played. But it’s not too small like some other ones I’ve seen. The previous one I had was a lot bigger and I didn’t have space for it. I also like that it has a curated set of games. The previous one had thousands of games on it, but I only played a few. And I like the fact that it has the Evercade system, instead of the more open Retro Arch system. I don’t like fussing with button mapping and such on Retro Arch. Although I admit that the button mapping on Evercade could have been better.

I listened to a podcast with someone from Blaze who explained why certain choices were made. And it seems it specifically caters to people like me. I like it small. I don’t care for a two player setup, I don’t need hdmi out because I have a VS. The only thing I would like to see at one point is an analog control method. That would be nice.
