Finished Lykia: Goodbye Nora

I took a little break from Lykia because of real life, but last weekend gave me the oportunity to play through the last part of the game.

There were some parts that were to obscure for me. There was for instance, a cow in a particular copse of trees that turned out to be an essential character for progressing the game. I must have missed a reference about that.

An obscure area in the game

I had to back track to the beginning areas to seek the last druids. Then go back again to enter a crate that took me to the NW area of the map. There I finally found the titular lost island and fulfilled Nora’s purpose in life. The ending was a little sad but stunning sequence for the C64. It’s just too bad that all that story got crammed into the ending. It would have been much nicer to discover parts of the story during the actual game. It just felt a little to empty too me. Let’s hope that the engine will get used for an even more ambitious game someday, that will feature more meaningful combat, more spells, but above all, a more fleshed out story.

Despite the slightly lacking parts of the game, I enjoyed playing it very much. The game is a technical marvel for the C64. Due to that high standard, you expect to find a more fleshed out game than it is, but even the gameplay that is there is miles above a lot of other C64 games I’ve played.

The box will be put back on the shelf where it will remind me of the fun times I had playing the game.
