For a while now I’ve been frustrated that my Atari Lynx is broken and that I can’t play all those brand new games that I bought for the system. And I also want to play some of my old favorites.
With that feeling in mind I made myself believe that I needed a Lynx Model 2 next to the model 1 I already have. Through a local online marketplace I contacted someone who was selling a recapped Model 2 Lynx. When I went over to pick it up, I told him about my faulty Lynx and he offered to take a look at it. What luck! I will definitely let him do that.
In the meantime I have a working Lynx again, albeit one without a screen mod. That takes some getting used to. But it hasn’t deterred me from putting in a high score of the excellent Assembloids. I felt a little bad about maybe kicking off some kid’s highscore from the board, but there still are some on there. Some higher than my score, which is no surprise as the game requires quick reflexes.
I also played a bit of Unseen, which is a mostly text-based interactive story. Probably the biggest juxtaposition you can get on the Lynx. This cerebral experience is so different from the pumping action that is Assembloids. It’s quite a nice experience in it’s own right. I must play more of both games. And I will!
